Shawn Clybor (B.A. UIC, Chicago; M.A. Northwestern) is a doctoral candidate at Northwestern University studying modern European history with a specialization in East-Central Europe. He is an aspiring cultural and intellectual historian whose dissertation will focus on the cultural politics of communists, Bolsheviks and radical socialists in Czechoslovakia, 1918-1958. His interests include the development of state-sponsored “official” and “underground” cultures in modern European societies, and the intellectual development and social implications of European nationalism. He travels regularly to the Czech Republic, where he currently resides, and which he considers his second home. |
