Elise Lipkowitz (BA, Stanford; MA, Stanford) specializes in the history of science and medicine in the 18th C Atlantic World. Her research interests include the relationship between science and politics, the role of institutions, individuals and media in the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge, as well as techniques of persuasion in the history of science and medicine. She is the author of The Physicians Dilemma in the Eighteenth Century French Smallpox Debate, which appeared in JAMA in November 2003. Elise also serves as the Assistant Master of Northwesterns Ayers Residential College of Commerce and Industry.
