Stephen Mak researches and teaches social and political history, especially the intersection of foreign relations and immigration policy (Asian American and comparative). He earned his bachelors degree at Cornell University, where he majored in industrial and labor relations and was a winner of the Joel Seidman Prize. Before coming to Northwestern, he worked at the labor policy office of Senator Edward M. Kennedy and taught social studies in New Yorks Chinatown. He served two terms as a history department graduate student representative.
