David Sellers Smith specializes in Gilded Age social, political, and intellectual history. His dissertation explores the advent of interest group politics by examining the consolidation of credit professionals into one of the first advocacy organizations with national lobbying power. He received a B.A. in History and Economics from Lake Forest College, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and an M.A. in American History from Northwestern in 2003. To paraphrase Woody Allen, his one regret in life is that he is not someone else.
