Mar. 2006: Darcy Hughes Heuring's revised first-year research essay on Victorian wet nursing and infanticide has been awarded the Shryock Medal from the American Association of Historians of Medicine for "the best historical research essay written by a US graduate student."
Jan. 2006: Professor Susan Pearson recently founded H-Animal, the H-Net Network on Animal Studies. The new discussion list is intended to be a home for scholars interested the interdisciplinary study of animals in human culture. The list hosts book reviews, conference announcements, and conversations on research and teaching. The Networks website has bibliographic, organizational, and pedagogical resources. 23 Nov. 2003: Three NU women have been recognized nationally for their great intelligence and dedication to the common good. Cristina Bejan (Philosophy, '04) has been awarded one of the 32 Rhodes Scholarships given nationally. Tracy Carson (History, '04) and Kate Elswit (Dance/Comp Lit, '02) have accepted their Marshall Scholarships, 2 of up to 40 given nationally. The Rhodes and Marshall not only provide strong funding for 2 and potentially 3 years' study in Britain, but both programs also take pains to network their scholars widely within disciplinary and governmental circles.
