Gideon Cohn-Postar

Gideon Cohn-Postar studies nineteenth-century United States history with an emphasis on voting rights, politics, race, and class in the post-Civil War era. His secondary interests include American Political Development, military history, and the history of the British Empire.

His dissertation is “‘Mind How You Vote, Boys:’ Economic Voter Intimidation and the Crisis of Workplace Democracy in the Late-Nineteenth Century United States.” It explores how the economic intimidation of voters during the Gilded Age warped politics, shaped the labor movement, and changed how Americans vote to this day.
